REVIEW:
The land of Kandala has long been tormented by a deadly plague, and with only one known cure and limited supplies of it, apothecary Tessa Cade is desperate to help as many people as possible. But in her way is the cruel prince Corrick, who’s job is to shut down all the rebels. . . throughout the course of this book Tessa learns the power of love and forgiveness, as well as how hard it can be to distinguish right and wrong.
I very thoroughly enjoyed this book! Usually a book can hook me the moment it mentions plagues, so it took very little time for me to get invested in the story. I loved the depth of the characters, and I really enjoyed seeing their relationships with each other play out and deepen. You know you’re reading a good book when you wish the characters would come out of the book so you could have a conversation with them/hit them over the head with a large book, which is exactly what I found myself wanting to do during this book. Also. . . the romance. It was amazing.
One thing I didn’t prefer though was how little the politics were explained. There were a lot of people in positions of power in this world, and honestly it got very confusing trying to keep track of them all. If it were a small part of the story, then it probably wouldn’t matter so much but you actually do need to know who is who in this book, so that got annoying. But overall, I liked it! A solid four-star read!
WARNINGS:
Romance // Blood // Descriptive injuries
TAKEAWAYS:
My takeaways from this book were few and simple: it’s not easy to forgive but it’s worth it, and right and wrong isn’t always as simple as black and white.

The kingdom of Kandala is on the brink of disaster. Rifts between sectors have only worsened since a sickness began ravaging the land, and within the Royal Palace, the king holds a tenuous peace with a ruthless hand.
King Harristan was thrust into power after his parents' shocking assassination, leaving the younger Prince Corrick to take on the brutal role of the King's Justice. The brothers have learned to react mercilessly to any sign of rebellion--it's the only way to maintain order when the sickness can strike anywhere, and the only known cure, an elixir made from delicate Moonflower petals, is severely limited.
Out in the Wilds, apothecary apprentice Tessa Cade is tired of seeing her neighbors die, their suffering ignored by the unyielding royals. Every night, she and her best friend Wes risk their lives to steal Moonflower petals and distribute the elixir to those who need it most--but it's still not enough.
As rumors spread that the cure no longer works and sparks of rebellion begin to flare, a particularly cruel act from the King's Justice makes Tessa desperate enough to try the impossible: sneaking into the palace. But what she finds upon her arrival makes her wonder if it's even possible to fix Kandala without destroying it first.
