One of our all time favorite Middle Grade Series is The Kingdom Series by Chuck Black. It is a medieval biblical allegory beginning in the life of Moses all the way through Revelation. Knights, princesses, dragons, swords, ships, battles against the forces of evil  but the light of the Prince remains steadfast. The study guides in the back of the book made it come to life through the lense of the bible even more.
