Quote:
“I am [in your world].’ said Aslan. ‘But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.” - C.S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Context:
Narnia has been a big part of my life. Ever since I was a young girl and my mom read it to me I fell in love with it. I fell in love with the world and with the characters. I fell in love with everything about it. Now the older I get, I realize more of the significance of it. It taught me many things, yes, but now coming back to it I see even more of the hidden truths that aren’t so hidden.
In this quote, we see something super deep. Something that I have seen the Lord do in my life and in other's lives. Not in this same way of course. God hasn’t actually brought me to another world (I mean I haven’t ever heard of that happening at least…if it happened to you, then please share your secrets!) to show me Him, but He does it in discreet ways.
Sometimes the Lord has to take us to places so that He can show us things that we may never have believed if not for that experience. In this example Aslan wanted the hearts of the Pevensies. But He knew that in their world they wouldn’t believe. He had to take them all the way to Narnia where they experienced epic adventures and deeper truths, so that they would believe in Him and see Him and in His glory face-to-face. Otherwise it might not have happened. He had to make the separation of them leaving Narnia so hard that they would seek Him in their world with urgency. Because they needed Him....urgently!
We may ask, why He may take such drastic measures to teach us something that seems so simple. I probably cannot give you that answer but I had a thought. What if the reason was because God wanted us so badly, and He knew the only way to bring us to the point of no return was to take us to the deepest darkest depths so that there was no doubting our need for Him. We needed to know that, and there was no other way to teach us, unless first He showed us that we can do NOTHING without Him! He sweeps in with his mighty power, in our weakness and shows us what HE can do. For he can do ALL things. Nothing is impossible for Him.
We see a perfect example for this, not only in Narnia, but even more so on the cross. God wanted us. The only way to do it was to take Jesus to the cross. The ultimate sacrifice for us. For you. For me. Because there was no other way. Can you believe that God believes you are worth that! He loves you so much that He will go to such desperate measures to teach you something that can only be taught in that way. Our God is quite the awesome God.
So today, don’t forget to look for God. Maybe He is trying to teach you something. I know that right now He is teaching me this very lesson as I am battling my own storm, facing ACL replacement surgery in a few weeks. I'm facing a lot a fear but as I seek Him, He continues to remind me to trust Him. That I'm not alone and that my story is still being written. Even in the hardest moments when everything thing feels hopeless, He shows me that I need Him and can't do it on my own. Maybe He’s taking you to that same place. Or maybe you are facing a different storm. But whatever walk of life you are in right now, whatever season you find yourself in, trust Him always and continuously seek after Him. He's just waiting for you!
"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6
